Welsummer

Welsummers are an egg layer developed in Welsum, Holland. They have relatively tightly feathered bodies with broad backs and broad breast feathering, with each side coming together to form a heart. Our boys are simply stunning, with iridescent green tails, reddish-orange hackles and saddles, and richly colored breast and wing feathers. The most unique quality of these birds, however, is their egg color. Eggs range in shades of light terracotta to medium brown with many sporting chocolate brown speckles of assorted sizes. While each hen will have a primary base color and specking pattern, there can be some variation due to the season. It’s always a joy to collect the eggs and see what patterns the ladies laid.
